Hull FC’s Jake Connor’s reported club for 2023

When Jake Connor was linked with a move away from Hull FC earlier in the season, it took a number of people by surprise.

The maverick has an undoubted talent, but his biggest criticism has been to do that in a consistent fashion, yet, it seemed enough to impress NRL clubs and one in particular.

That club was the Canberra Raiders, with the Canberra Times at the time in question claiming that Connor was firmly in Ricky Stuart and Don Furner’s sights at the capital club.

For months, however, little was said on the subject before that paper reported that the move fell through with Connor now set to stay at the MKM Stadium for 2023 and perhaps beyond.

But, no one knows why – or it hasn’t been reported anyway – why that move didn’t materialise, though it will keep Hull fans happy to know that Connor will there delivering assist after assist under Brett Hodgson once more.

That then begs another question – where will Connor play?

He has been tried at fullback, halfback and centre in 2022 so far with halfback failing to come off in a dismal defeat to Castleford Tigers last month.

Although Connor has excelled at fullback attacking-wise, defensively there is still much to ponder which explains why head coach Brett Hodgson has gone with loanee Jack Walker in recent weeks after bringing him in from Leeds Rhinos.

And, with Walker going up a level for the Black and Whites, Connor has been forced out into the centres – though he has enjoyed something of a roaming role in recent weeks with Hodgson tinkering with his side.

New signing Will Smith is now partnering Luke Gale in the halves whilst Hull have also signed Liam Sutcliffe for 2023.

And, with Connor Wynne and Carlos Tuimavave still waiting in the wings, it remains to be seen where Connor fits into that line-up.

It is a genuinely intriguing question as to where Connor will play at Hull next season, what do you think Hull fans?
