Hull FC begin overhaul with Super League signing

Hull FC have signed Ed Chamberlain on a month-long loan from Leigh Leopards.

He’s only played three times this season, and joins a side in need of reinforcements.

In a club statement, Hull FC said that he “adds some important experience and depth to the Black & Whites”, adding that “Chamberlain offers utility value to Simon Grix’s side in the coming weeks, being capable of playing in the outside backs and back row.”

Chamberlain, who can play anywhere across the back line, signed for the Leopards in 2022, and has scored 21 tries in 52 games for the club, as well as taking kicking duties on occasion.

The 28-year-old has played for Ireland at two World Cups and has previously played for clubs including Widnes Vikings and Salford Red Devils.

With Leigh Leopards, he has an 1895 Cup and Challenge Cup to his name.

Hull FC bring in Chamberlain on loan

Leopards Head of Rugby Chris Chester spoke about the signing of Chamberlain, he said: “Ed is a first-class professional and though he has featured in all our first team squads this year he hasn’t had the game time he needs at this stage of his career.
“This loan move allows Ed to have the opportunity to play regularly at a high level and so it suits all parties. We will be closely monitoring his performances each week and wish him every success.”

The 28-year old will join up with the first-team squad in the coming days, ahead of Sunday’s Betfred Super League Round 9 fixture against Leeds Rhinos.

It’s likely that new Director of Rugby Richie Myler will oversee more signings at Hull FC over the coming weeks, such as Tom Briscoe, who may also be making the move from Leigh Leopards.

Myler begins overhaul at Hull

Chamberlain becomes the club’s first signing under new Director of Rugby, Richie Myler.

The former Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos star has been tasked with overhauling the FC squad over the coming weeks and months in an attempt to turn around the club’s woeful season to date.

FC are also in the process of appointing a new head coach, with Salford boss Paul Rowley the number one target and a contract offer already made to try to lure him from their Super League rivals.

It’s all change at the Black and Whites, and it needs to be after a dire 2024 to date. Chamberlain looks set to be the first of many signings, with Myler set to be very busy in his new role between now and the transfer deadline at the start of August,
