Hull FC could make major decision at the start of 2024 campaign

Hull FC coach Tony Smith

Hull FC have a big transfer decision to make ahead of 2024 as the season draws ever closer.

The Black and Whites have completed some impressive signings ahead of the 2024 campaign such as forwards Franklin Pele and Herman Ese’ese. They have also recruited Fa’amanu Brown. The former Featherstone Rovers spine player is joins providing impressive experience as a Samoan and New Zealand international.

Hull though have one more area to consider in terms of recruitment and that is an outside back. Adam Pearson said the club wanted a further signing in this area with the club having only signed Liam Tindall from Leeds Rhinos.

With the likes of Carlos Tuimavave struggling with injuries, another signing in this area would be key and they have options too such as Derrell Olpherts as well as potential targets in the Championship.

Thus, the club have a big question to answer as the new year ticks around with the question marks increased by the injury to Liam Tindall who has suffered a broken thumb.

They have signed a new fullback in the shape of former Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR star Jack Walker who is prepping for a big year.

“I’ve spent a fair bit of time in the gym – maybe a little bit too much time! I’ve been doing lots of extras to make sure my body is in great shape,” he told hullfc.com.

“It’s no secret that I’ve had a tough time with injury down the years, so I’m doing everything I can to try and prevent any further setbacks and it’s just giving me a better understanding of my body now.

“It’s been a very tough pre-season so far. It’s actually my first one since 2019 because of disruptions through injury.

“But pre-season is what it is. It’s always tough, but I’m enjoying it and I know I’m going to reap the rewards in the long run.”

The Black and Whites have given themselves options in the spine but is their recruitment complete or will they test the market as a potential Christmas present to their fans? Time will tell as Tony Smith’s new era at the club truly begins to take shape at the MKM Stadium.
