Hull FC confirm Tex Hoy and Nu Brown exits

Hull FC have confirmed that both Tex Hoy and Nu Brown have left the club with immediate effect, the overseas duo leaving just a day after the sacking of Tony Smith.

The news of the exits of the two players comes after rumours spread across social media earlier this week. The suggestion that Hoy was set to leave was sparked by the fact that he was seen to have unfollowed the club on social media, whilst his father posted comments criticising the coaching style of Tony Smith on Hull FC Instagram posts.

It was only last night that news of Brown also wanting out circulated but that has now also been confirmed with Hull FC releasing a brief statement on the pair.

The statement, posted on their website, read: “Hull FC can confirm that Tex Hoy and Fa’amanu Brown have left the club with immediate effect.

“Brown, who was off contract at the end of the season, has requested to return home to be closer to family on compassionate grounds.

“Hoy has also left the club ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the current season.

“The club would like to wish both players well in their future careers.”

Hull FC have had a torrid start to the season with just one win in Super League so far but more worrying has been the huge number of tries that the team have conceded, a total of 36 in their last four games in all competitions.

It now seems that a reset of some kind is taking place with two of the club’s seven overseas players exiting just a day after the dismissal of Tony Smith.

FC don’t play this weekend after being knocked out of the Challenge Cup but their next game is one of the toughest on paper as they travel to St Helens, likely led by current temporary coaches Simon Grix and Francis Cummings.

The exits of Hoy and Brown see the talent in the Hul FC squad diminish even further with Brown being an international hooker and Hoy being a playmaker with serious talent when he has quality around him, something that unfortunately hasn’t happened often enough during his spell in England.

His first month saw him earn Super League Player of the Month honours and he now ends his Hull FC career with just 24 games played an three tries, however, that dwarves the tally of Brown who played just eight times for the club and also scored three tries.

Yesterday’s sacking of Tony Smith has seemingly been a catclyust for what appears to be a hard reset with the club statement confirming the news of Smith’s departure seeing Hull FC Chairman, Adam Pearson, state: “On behalf of everyone associated with Hull FC, I would like to thank Tony and Stan for their contribution to the club during their time with the first team.

“They have worked tirelessly and it is disappointing to have had to come to this decision, but it is one I feel is right at this time. I wish them both well for the future.

“There will be further restructuring of the club in the coming days and we will update further in due course.”

Smith himself said: “I want to wish the club and all of the players well for the future.

“It is disappointing not to see the job through which was always going to be a challenging project and I was relishing the opportunity to see it through.

“I wish everyone at the club the best for the future.”
