Hull FC 12-22 Leeds Rhinos: Player ratings and major talking points

Leeds Rhinos avenged their 18-12 defeat at the hands of Hull earlier this season when they claimed a 22-12 win at the MKM Stadium tonight. Everything went Hull’s in the first half and they quite rightly led 6-4 at the break but a magnificent second half from the Rhinos turned the tide and took them to victory.

Major Talking Points:

1. Dwyer changes the game

There were plenty of reasons behind Leeds’ second half comeback but at the heart of it was Brad Dwyer. The hooker sped things up and dragged the Hull defence left and right tiring them out and opening up space. He nicked a lovely try to give Leeds the lead before creating the decisive score for Cameron Smith.

2. What went wrong for Hull?

Watching the first half I felt like there was only ever going to be one winner. Hull FC were in total control, Leeds were hanging on well but it felt like a matter of time. Their forwards were on top and they kept opening up Leeds down the middle. Soon enough however Leeds were dictating the game and you have to ask why? For the second week in a row Hull were in a commanding position only end up on the losing side. They need to change that if they want to be title contenders.

3. Character from the Rhinos

It was a difficult first half for the Rhinos and on the back of a difficult week you could’ve expected them to collapse against the Black and Whites. What happened was the absolute opposite. They showed character with some brilliant scrambling defence and scored some savvy tries when they had to.
