Huddersfield Giants reveal 2024 squad headlined by NRL star signings

Huddersfield Giants have launched their squad shirt numbers for the upcoming 2024 season, one that they’ll be hoping brings far more success than in 2023 where Ian Watson’s men ultimately fell short of their goals.

After an impressive 2022 campaign in which the Giants were just on the edge of silverware, placing third in the league and also making the Challenge Cup Final, many expected another step forward in 2023.

The Giants made a plethora of signings for the campaign with the headline being Jake Connor who was coming off an incredible 33 assist season with Hull FC. Connor even went on to describe the Giants squad as ‘most talented in Super League’, whilst owner Ken Davy admitted it was the best side he’d put together during his time in charge.

That’s what made the campaign all the more disappointing with the Giants finishing a disappointing tenth. They’ll look to bounce back in 2024 and will be doing so with a brand new starting half-back, NRL recruit Adam Clune being handed the number seven shirt.

Following Theo Fages departure the side needed some creativity bringing in and Clune is just that, whilst another NRL recruit in Jack Murchie replaces the retiring Chris McQueen albeit taking shirt 11 instead of 12.

New winger Adam Swift takes the number two shirt after an impressive season at Hull FC, whilst academy product Sam Hewitt takes on the 12 shirt formerly worn by McQueen.

The Giants confirmed their squad numbers at a ‘Squad Launch’ last night, whilst releasing the following statement to their website.

“Huddersfield Giants can now reveal their 2024 Squad Numbers ahead of the upcoming Betfred Super League season.

“Off-season signing Adam Swift takes the vacant number 2 shirt, after an impressive season with fellow Super League side Hull FC, with Jake Bibby taking the other traditional winger number in 5.

“Aussie recruits Adam Clune and Jack Murchie take 7 and 11 respectively, with Clune revealed to the Giants supporters for the first time this evening, after making the move from Newcastle Knights.

“Academy product Sam Hewitt moves from 29 to 12, as he looks to cement a starting spot in the squad and is rewarded after consistent performances.

“Adam Milner takes the 9 spot, with fellow Hooker Tom Deakin being handed 19, looking to make a big impact in Super League after making the move from Australia.”
