Wigan playmaker Jackson Hastings is set to decide where his future lies in the next couple of days.
The 24-year-old, who helped the Warriors win the League Leaders’ Shield on Friday night, signed a two-year deal at the DW Stadium ahead of this season.
However, Hastings’ contract includes an NRL opt-out option and reports down under suggest the Australian half-back isn’t short of interest back home.
Having previously starred for the Sydney Roosters and Manly Sea Eagles, Hastings has taken his game to a new level in Super League and is the reigning Steve Prescott Man of Steel.
After helping Salford to the Grand Final against the odds 12 months ago, he is now recreating that form for Wigan who are favourites to go on and win the Super League trophy later this month.
It appears Adrian Lam has already started planning for life without Hastings having brought in Jai Field from Parramatta for next season, while Bevan French has just signed a new contract and Thomas Leuluai is expected to stay for another year.
Lam also has impressive youngster Harry Smith to call on but despite an array of options in the halves, Hastings could still stay after admitting he has yet to make a decision on his future.
That decision is expected in the next few days, after telling Sky Sports he will use the break earned by Wigan for finishing top to make a final call on where his future should be.
“I probably would have put it aside again if we had lost because we would have had to play next week,” said Hastings.
“I’ve got some deep thinking to do. I think I know what I want to do, I think I know what my heart is telling me to do.
“I’ll probably FaceTime my agent tonight, then FaceTime my mum, my step-dad, the rest of my family and get a gauge of what they think is best for me and my future.
“Hopefully by the start of next week I’ll come to a decision.”
