Halifax re-sign ‘Challenge Cup hero’

Halifax have re-signed utility back James Woodburn-Hall – the player dubbed a hero for his following his match-winning try in the quarter-final against Bradford.

Woodburn-Hall produced a superb solo effort in the 20-16 win, ghosting his way through the Bulls defence and dummying past the fullback to score from 40 yards out.

The 24-year-old signed for ‘Fax in 2016 following spells with London Broncos, London Skolars and Hemel Stags.

He was also a star of the University game whilst studying at the University of Leeds, gaining international honours with England Universities and winning the University Player of the Year Award in 2017.

He has since gone on to make 56 appearances for Halifax, scoring 25 tries.

“I’m buzzing to be doing another year at Halifax”, said Woodburn-Hall. “I’m really enjoying myself at this club and it’s a place where I really feel at home.

“Hopefully we can grow into this next year, get in the playoffs and give the fans something to shout about.”

James Woodburn-Hall (centre) has penned a new contract with Halifax.

‘Fax head coach Simon Grix added: “James has been important for us this year with his versatility and showed glimpses of what he is capable of.

“Next year is an opportunity to stake his claim for a fixed position. I’ve told him on numerous occasions he is probably the most talented in the team and has all the tools to go as far as he wants.

“Consistency is the issue and we as coaches will work with him there but the challenge lies with James to produce.”
