Further details about Caleb Aekins’ move to Featherstone Rovers revealed as club thanks fans for their role in the signing

Featherstone have just pulled off a major coup as they announced the signing of Leigh Leopards star fullback Caleb Aekins.

Aekins was excellent in 2022 for the then Centurions scoring over 20 tries for the club as they finished top losing one league game all season ironically to the Featherstone Rovers.

Aekins tasted cup final victory over the Rovers however at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium in the 1895 Cup Final prior to scoring a mesmeric try against the Batley Bulldogs in the Championship Grand Final to secure promotion.

Certainly a player who would shine in Super League, Aekins couldn’t stay at Leigh due to the overseas player quota rules which allows Super League clubs only seven overseas stars.

This has also seen Sam Stone leave and could also see Nene MacDonald join Leeds Rhinos.

Aekins has already been replaced at Leigh Sports Village by former Wigan Warriors, Castleford Tigers and Leeds star Zak Hardaker for 2023 amongst a whole host of major signings.

Aekins is now a major signing for the Rovers as they chase Super League promotion in 2023.

Now more details have emerged about the move after the initial buzz of the announcement.

Aekins has signed a two-year deal with the club which will end after the 2024 season meaning he could feature in Super League for the Rovers should they win promotion.

2024 will be a vital year as IMG’s vision starts to take ahold.

Furthermore, the club has said that the fans have played a key role in allowing them to sign Aekins.

They said: “Aekins’ signing has been in no small part to the continued support of Your Squad Builder members and our thanks goes in particular to those who have already signed up to Squad Builder Plus.”
