French glad to put speculation behind him

Wigan Warriors fullback Bevan French has expressed his delight at signing a new deal, and putting speculation about his future.

French had been linked with a return to the NRL, and his former club Parramatta Eels. However, he signed a new deal to stay at Wigan on Sunday.

He says he hopes to keep on growing with the Warriors.

He said: ” I am very excited to be staying. I am learning a lot, both from the football side of things and about myself. We have the coaching staff around that I can keep growing.

“Super League is a very exciting brand of rugby league. It is definitely suited to faster, smaller players. The first thing I noticed was the speed.

“However, with the new rules, it is now closer to the NRL. There are tough players here, they compete for everything.

“Any professional sportsman will tell you, you play better when you have a clear mind. I’m glad to have put the speculation behind me.

“There was interest in the NRL, but we have really good players who I am learning a lot from. I am enjoying my growth here as a player, and as a person.”
