Former Super League halfback completes move to surprise club

As previously rumoured, Cook Islands international and former Sydney Roosters utility player, Johnathon Ford has joined French Elite One club Limoux in a major coup for the club.

Ford was key in guiding Toulouse Olympique to Super League in 2021 and was initially part of their Super League squad before controversy meant he left the club and was then replaced by Corey Norman.

He then joined the club who Toulouse beat to gain promotion, Featherstone Rovers, turning down interest from Leigh Leopards.

Sadly for Ford and Featherstone, in his two year stint at the club they would be unable to secure promotion with Ford unable to repeat the magic he showed at Toulouse.

At the end of 2023 and following another semi-final defeat, Ford was one of 17 players released by Featherstone and the stand-off has returned to France with Limoux.

Treize Mondial reported: “Deprived of Pat Templeman at the start of the season and Jake Bourke a little later, the Limoux XIII had to trust their youngsters in this first phase, in a position so important as the hinge.

“By recruiting this player, well known to the French thirteenth century, the Limoux XIII ensures a perfect homogeneity between the ardour of youth and the serenity of experience in its squad.

“A former Toulouse Olympique player with whom he played 11 seasons and experienced promotion to the Championship, he had migrated before the start of the Super League season in 2022 to Rovers de Featherstone. Limoux has therefore achieved a big coup on the eve of the second leg of the Elite 1 championship.”
