Former Featherstone Rovers star wants ambitious NRL move

Featherstone Rovers

For so long, Featherstone Rovers have battled hard to join the likes of Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington wolves and St Helens in the Betfred Super League.

The Rovers have shown great ambition to make it to the top tier of British and European rugby league.

They started the 2010s as one of the premier teams in the Championship but it mattered little given the three year licences awarded at that time.

Then they were somewhat second best when the Middle 8s emerged but over the last three years have looked like series contenders for promotion.

In 2021, they were certainly second best to Toulouse Olympique. A year ago that was definitely true when compared to the eventual Leigh Leopards underlined by the fact they made their way to Challenge Cup Final glory.

Featherstone were a great team at the start of that season but were unable to reach the final.

In 2023, they led the way from the start of the season but there were concerns when they lost to their promotion rivals and eventually they were dumped out of the play-offs by fifth place London Broncos who would eventually be promoted.

This situation has raised a lot of question about the club’s squad with many believing the club were promising players Super League in 2024.

With these questions raised one of their former players has been pushing for a move back to Post Office Road.

Cameron King, who has 43 NRL appearances to his name, is interested in returning to the club he played for him in 2019.

He posted his intention on X. He told the club to call him and added: “I have unfinished business in the Championship.”

The Rovers have already been busy bringing in Ben Reynolds from Leigh Leopards and Greg Minikin from Warrington Wolves.

They have also re-signed Gadwin Springer, Gareth Gale and Caleb Aekins.

However, it seems King has ended his hopes of re-joining the Rovers and pivoted his intentions to joining St George Illawarra Dragons.

This may be because there was no interest from the Rovers who are managing their funding tightly after missing out on Super League.

King previously played for St George and helped them defeat Wigan Warriors in the 2011 World Club Challenge.
