Former Leigh Leopards man begins journey with new club as they chase Super League dream

Featherstone Rovers confirmed the signing of Leigh Leopards star Caleb Aekins before the end of 2022 in another statement signing for the club as they chase promotion.

The former Penrith Panthers fullback joined Leigh last year and was an instant hit.

Electric at the back, Aekins scored tries for fun as he helped Leigh secure promotion ahead of the Rovers in 2022.

He scored a spectacular try against Batley Bulldogs in the Championship Grand Final having been a key part of Leigh’s earlier final success in 2022 when they defeated the Rovers at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium in the 1895 Cup Final.

With plenty of pace he is perhaps one of those players the Leopards would have liked to have kept following their rebrand from Centurions.

But due to quota spot restrictions, he and the likes of Sam Stone and Nene MacDonald who headed to Leeds Rhinos, have had to be let go of.

The Leopards have already replaced him with star signing Zak Hardaker formerly of the Rhinos, Castleford Tigers and the Wigan Warriors.

An electric player, he scored over 20 tries in 2022 and there is more to come from a player who could easily be a star in Super League moving forward.

He will certainly give Featherstone’s hopes of promotion a might boost and could be the perfect foil to Bradford Bulls’ Jack Walker.

His journey at Featherstone has now begun with him pictured in the club’s colours for the first time on social media.

Can he be the one to inspire Fev to Super League as he was at Leigh? Time will tell.
