Former Leeds Rhinos star set for Super League return as mega move looms?

Former Leeds Rhinos star Aidan Sezer faces an uncertain future at the Wests Tigers.

The former Huddersfield Giants halfback left Leeds after two years at the club to join the Tigers in the NRL but his stint at the club looks set to be very short indeed.

The halfback is set to be replaced by the arrival of Jarome Luai in 2025 after he agreed to a deal worth $6 million or £3.1 million. This means Sezer will likely be on the market at the end of 2024 and could even return to Super League should the right offer emerge.

Either that or he could pursue a similar end of career path to friend and former Leeds teammate Blake Austin who has joined semi-pro side the Entrance Tigers alongside David Fifita for 2024.

Leeds Rhinos confirmed the signing of Aidan Sezer on a two year contract from Betfred Super League rivals Huddersfield Giants for the 2022 season.

Sezer, who was a runner-up for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel award in his debut season in Super League in 2020, joined the Rhinos having previously played with Gold Coast Titans and Canberra Raiders in the NRL. In his first season with Leeds, he scored four tries in 17 appearances, but unfortunately missed out on the Grand Final through injury.

The half back made over 150 appearances in the NRL and was part of the Combined Nations All Stars team that defeated England in 2021.

“I am really excited about the move across to the Rhinos. In my opinion, the Rhinos are the biggest club in Super League and I hope I can be part of a successful couple of years in my time here.

“Leeds are known for their fan base and the enormity of the club and I am looking forward to experiencing that as a player. A lot of the boys who have been at the club in the past, cannot speak highly enough about the Rhinos.

“It will be a good environment for me to play my best. Leeds sells itself to you because of the size of the club. Back home, I used to watch the Leeds side growing up and I am really excited to be joining the club and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
