Former Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Trinity man finds new club for 2023

There’s been a lot of movement in the transfer market over the last few days and Sheffield Eagles have been at the heart of it with signings like Joe Hird from Leeds Rhinos who is a very highly rated young forward whom many were surprised to see leave Headingley.

Now they have added some real experience to their ranks through the shape of a former Super League star.

The man in question is Aaron Murphy who has signed a two-year deal with the Eagles masterminded by Mark Ashton.

Murphy started his career as an outside back and playing under John Kear at Wakefield Trinity.

He made 64 appearances scoring once every four games to register 16 tries.

He enjoyed more success at Huddersfield Giants whom he joined in 2012. He helped them the to League Leaders’ Shield in 2013 as well as three consecutive play-off appearances including semi-finals in 2013 and 2015.

He made 187 appearances for the club scoring an impressive 78 tries.

After 2020, he made the move to Bradford Bulls where he reunited with John Kear now as a fully fledged second-row.

After two seasons with the Bulls he has now made the switch to Sheffield for next season as they look to make the necessary signings to make a play-off push.

It’s the second departure from Bradford this morning following in the footsteps of Elliot Kear who joined Batley.

All of this is part of a rebuild at Odsal.
