Featherstone Rovers’ Jack Bussey in controversy after tackle on Blake Ferguson

Leigh Centurions were able to overcome Championship promotion rivals Featherstone Rovers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final.

Leigh took revenge on Featherstone following their defeat to Rovers back at the beginning of the season with a whole host of Centurions players joining the club since then.

The likes of Blake Ferguson, Krisnan Inu and Edwin Ipape all starred for Leigh at the weekend with head coach Adrian Lam and director of rugby Chris Chester vindicated for their recruitment whilst special mention must go to owner Derek Beaumont who continues to bankroll the Lancashire club.

During the game, Leigh were the better team but there must have been some worry when Ferguson went down in the second forty minutes clutching his neck.

And, from the replay it was obvious why, with Featherstone’s Jack Bussey coming under fire for grabbing the former Australian international’s neck and applying pressure.

It remains to be seen whether Bussey will be given a punishment by the Disciplinary Match Review Panel, but it didn’t alter the result as the Centurions sent out a message.
