Jackson Hastings was told to “skip training” today at the Wests Tigers according to the Daily Telegraph.
This comes as talk of his move away from the club ramps up.
The 2019 Man of Steel winner who starred for both Salford Red Devils and Wigan Warriors in Super League Grand Finals, has spent one year of a two-year deal at the Wests Tigers.
It was a frustrating season for the Tigers and resulted in ex-Wigan boss Michael Maguire departing the club and Tim Sheens taking the reigns.
Throughout the season, Hastings played six, seven and was even moved to 13 at the end. Despite the fact three of the Tigers’ four wins came with Hastings at seven, Sheens evidently doesn’t see the former Red Devils as a seven requesting the move to 13 and that was where he was set to stay in 2023 with Sheens telling the Canberra Times that Hastings would stay as he was contracted to the club but that Luke Brooks would remain as his halfback.
Brooks has been chased by Newcastle Knights as the replacement for Catalans Dragons’ Mitchell Pearce however the situation with Hastings has seen the Knights move for the former Wigan man in a swap deal that will see David Klemmer move to the Tigers in 2023.
As the move gains traction, both Hastings and Klemmer were told to “skip training” today.
Danny Weidler of Channel Nine has reported that the deal is expected “within a week.”
