Ex-Super League prop returns to former club

In 2020 James Gavet arrived at the Huddersfield Giants.

This was a point of transition for the West Yorkshire club as Ian Watson arrived at the end of that season and brought in plenty of change developing the squad into the star studded side we see today.

At the centre of that change was of course the pack but Gavet is a player who would be superb inside Watson’s team had he stayed at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The prop was in excellent form in 2021 as the Giants struggled before leaving the club mid-season to return home after 25 appearances and four tries.

Now though the prop has rejoined one of his former teams in the shape of the New Zealand Warriors.

Gavet played last week as the Warriors defeated the Canterbury Bulldogs in the New South Wales Cup.

Though only on a NSW Cup deal, Gavet is an option the Warriors could consider later in the season.

He initially joined the Warriors in 2016 ahead of a three year stint at the club as he made 42 appearances scoring two tries.

After this he joined Newcastle Knights for one season making 19 appearances prior to joining the Giants in 2020.

At 33, he perhaps doesn’t have much of his career left but could have one last go around in the NRL thanks to the Warriors.
