Shaun Wane slammed for “disrespectful treatment” of Super League star by fans

In this Test Series we have seen debuts for Leeds Rhinos star Harry Newman, Warrington Wolves winger Matty Ashton and Hull KR halfback Mikey Lewis.

It has also marked a return to the mix for Catalans Dragons winger Tom Johnstone and Wigan Warriors captain Liam Farrell.

A return to the England side is well deserved for Super League’s most consistent back-rower but the Wigan skipper missed out last week before only playing under four minutes in the second test.

This led to much criticism from fans with one fan saying: “After watching Jonny Bateman struggle through the last two weeks, my head absolutely fell off when Liam Farrell appeared out of nowhere with three minutes left today.”

Another fan described it as, “Disrespectful treatment of Liam Farrell” a surprise given England boss Shaun Wane was worked with Farrell for well over a decade.

Another fan described it as criminal saying: “Giving Liam Farrell the last 3 mins is criminal ! Been the best 2nd row forward for years.”

More said that it was disrespectful: “The disrespect to Liam Farrell put him on for the last 20 seconds.”

More fans couldn’t understand the decision: “Has Shaun Wane had a falling out with Liam Farrell? Didn’t pick him last week & has left him on the bench for 77mins in this game. What’s the point in picking the best 2nd Rower we have if you’re not really gonna play him!?”

Meanwhile, one fan simply said: “Shaun Wane has done Liam Farrell the dirty here today”

However, Shaun Wane confirmed that the original plan was for Farrell to play 30 minutes but the game changed the his decision. He confirmed that he explained that to Farrell himself and that he apologised though he fears that Farrell didn’t understand the decision himself.

You would expect Farrell, Rob Mulhern and Tyler Dupree to get their chance to shine next weekend at Headingley.
