England star Tom Burgess has been charged by the match review panel following the clash with Tonga. Burgess started the game for England after a year of links to Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves following older brother Sam’s move to the Halliwell Jones Stadium as Head Coach.
Sam presented Tom and the rest of the England team with their shirts prior to the game against Kristian Woolf’s Tonga side.
Tom had been banned towards the end of the NRL season and this represented his return to the field but it ends with a charge for a high tackle Serious About Rugby League can reveal.
However, there has been no confirmation as to the punishment he will receive for the offence.
The likes of Harry Newman and Daryl Clark were also cited but avoided any charge.
Meanwhile, Victor Radley was cautioned for a late hit.
There were also cautions for Tyson Frizzell, Felise Kaufusi and Keon Koloamatangi. Two of these were for late hits whilst Koloamatangi was cautioned for a push to the face which was in the incident with Jack Welsby and Morgan Knowles.

It is likely that Burgess’ punishment is revealed tomorrow by the RFL and International Rugby League Board.
