Details of Wigan Warriors star’s reported NRL contract revealed

One of the biggest transfer stories of the year could be about to reach a conclusion before the beginning of 2023.

The Wests Tigers have been chasing Wigan Warriors star John Bateman for months.

Things kicked into gear when during the Rugby League World Cup when new Tigers boss, formerly of Hull KR, Tim Sheens, who was in the UK helping Italy, held a meeting with Bateman hoping to lure him back down under after he left Canberra Raiders in 2020 to return to Wigan.

This came after the Tigers had already made a move for him but stepped back over the transfer fee they would need to pay.

However, the club changed their stance on this following this meeting.

Now, according to the Daily Telegraph, the Tigers are ready to secure this signing before the new year begins as they pay $250,000 to release him from his deal at Wigan before its completion.

As this transfer nears completion, the Australian publication has shed some light on the contract Bateman is set to sign.

They have confirmed that he is set to sign a very long term deal which could be as long as a four year deal expiring in 2026 meaning the next time we could see Bateman in Super League may be 2027.
