Controversy as Super League star red carded just minutes after coming on

After all the drama of the Challenge Cup Final between Leigh Leopards and Hull KR, the first final since 1986 with Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and St Helens, the focus today is back on Super League as St Helens and Huddersfield Giants do battle.

The Saints are chasing cup winners Leigh, Wigan and Catalans Dragons at the top of the table as they hope to secure a home semi-final.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield are battling with beaten cup finalists Hull KR, Hull FC, Warrington and Salford Red Devils for a place in the play-offs.

But as the meet in a Round One game postponed because of the World Club Challenge, the game has been tarnished by a red card for Joe Greenwood just minutes after coming onto the field.

He has been sent off to the dismay of Huddersfield fans for leading with the elbow.

It comes after Matty English was sin binned for a cannon ball tackle which sparked a minor scuffle.

Saints lead 14-0 after two tries from Tommy Makinson.

In terms of the team news, there is a very big name left out for the Giants in the shape of Theo Fages.

The French star and former St Helens and Salford Red Devils man doesn’t feature with Olly Russell instead at seven.

Now Fages has been struggling with injuries lately but he was named in the 21 man squad.

Interestingly, it was confirmed this week that Fages was set to leave the club at the end of the year to join Catalans Dragons.

As for St Helens, they welcome back Joe Batchelor and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook.

There is still no Jon Bennison.

The Saints have lost Curtis Sironen and Will Hopoate unfortunately.
