Championship coach reveals plan to make further signings will be determined by Super League moves

The Championship has been home to some major signings this season.

Leeds Rhinos duo Jack Walker and Bodene Thompson have both joined Bradford Bulls as well as Huddersfield Giants veteran Michael Lawrence.

Meanwhile, ex-Wigan Warriors centre Chris Hankinson joins Featherstone Rovers alongside a few other ex-Super League stars like Mathieu Cozza as well as Wakefield Trinity winger Kyle Evans.

Halifax have made some smart signings after a signing spree last season and have added the likes of Jake Maizen after he shone at the World Cup.

Coach Simon Grix, formerly of Warrington Wolves, has revealed any further signings to their 24 man squad will be determined by Super League moves.

He said on Facebook:

“Christmas is down time for everyone and I think I said at that time, genuinely something has to happen above you for things to happen at our level.

“I think pecking orders are established in pre-season and they’re shown in friendlies and in as the season starts.

“We’re not jumping in, we’re a fit 24 but we are mindful that we’re only a few injuries away from having a problem.

“We’re definitely going to keep an eye on it and have some conversations throughout January.”

There are still a few free agents knocking around as well as 20 NRL players all looking for new clubs in 2023.
