Championship club secure Super League hooker until end of the season

Wigan Warriors

Wigan Warriors have a history of young, bright and talented stars which is one of the biggest reasons as to why they’re one of the sport’s most successful clubs and now one of their current crop of youngsters has confirmed his loan stay in the Championship till the end of the season.

Widnes Vikings have had Tom Forber on loan for a period this season and with the club looking like they’re heating up for a real run at the playoffs and then potentially towards the Million Pound Game they’ve taken action.

That’s seen Forber confirmed as signing on loan for the rest of the 2023 season extending his loan with the side who currently sit seventh in the Championship, just one point outside of the playoffs.

It’s still an incredibly tight table though with any team from fifth placed Bradford Bulls to ninth placed York Knights in ninth having a true shot, with just five points separating those two sides and Halifax, Widnes and London all packed between them.

Tying down the 20-year-old Hooker till the end of the year is therefore crucial and interim head coach Neil Belshaw seemed to agree when speaking to the Vikings website on the signing.

“Tom has fitted in seamlessly since he arrived at the club and his performances have reflected that. We are delighted that he will be with us for the remainder of the season and we look forward to more of the same from him,” Belshaw said.

It was also confirmed the the Vikings had one of their other loanees recalled as Jacob Jones headed back to the Leopards.

Head of Operations Chris Hamilton said ” Leigh naturally want to make sure they have as many players available as possible ahead of the final and with the end of season deadline being this Friday, 4 August, called Jacob back and he played on Dual Registration with Rochdale at the weekend.”

Hamilton added “It is a busy week throughout the game this week and is no different for us. If we can identify players that will improve us, we will do our utmost to bring them in and maintain the momentum we have gathered in the last few matches but, as many clubs are finding, that is easier said than done.”
