Championship Bash location confirmed for 2023 and it’s not Leeds Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium

The Championship Bash will have another new home in 2023.

This is because the Championship’s big event will not be held at Leeds Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium as it was in 2022 nor will it return to Blackpool where it was widely regarded as a success.

According to the York Press, the event will indeed take place at York’s LNER Stadium.

This comes after only 10,000 fans attended the event last year.

The Championship fixtures will be released this weekend whilst further details pertaining to the Championship Bash will be released on Tuesday 15th November.

This may be, like the Magic Weekend, one of the last Championship Bashes we see after IMG proposed the end of Super League’s big weekend to stop the sport from being oversaturated with big events.

It’s easy to claim that the Championship is also oversaturated with events now that they have the 1895 Cup Final alongside the play-offs.

The future of the concept beyond 2023 is unknown but it seems that the event will indeed take place in York next year meaning they will have a home advantage in the fixtures.

This could cause a stir as they will essentially have an extra home game next season.

It’s set to be a competitive season in the second tier with Bradford Bulls, Keighley Cougars, Halifax Panthers, Toulouse Olympique, Sheffield Eagles, and Featherstone Rovers all recruiting well.
