Catalans Dragons’ Mike McMeeken makes important decision on his future

Mike McMeeken has signed for Wakefield Trinity

Mike McMeeken has signed a two-year contract with Catalans Dragons.

The English second row has put pen to paper on a contract extension that will secure his future at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium until the end of the 2024 season.

He started his professional career at the London Broncos, making his senior debut in 2012 before joining Castleford in 2015 where he has developed into one of the best back rowers in the competition.

His individual performances were rewarded in 2017 with a nomination in the Super League Dream Team. He also earned England honours for the first time on the same year. He represented England twice and was a member of the England squad for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

He joined the Dragons in December 2021 from Castleford and he quickly impressed Catalans fans, becoming a key player of Steve McNamara’s squad.

The powerful back rower made 211 professional appearances and scored 50 tries since his debut 10 years ago, scoring 10 tries in 34 games for the Dragons.

McMeeken said: “I am very happy to be staying at the club for a further two seasons. Myself and my family are loving it over here. I feel that the club is going in the right direction and I’m looking forward to seeing what the future brings.

The Catalans boss, Steve McNamara, said: Mike has been outstanding in every area for us since his arrival. He is a tremendous professional and is a perfect fit for our team and club. We are delighted he has agreed to a new deal and looking forward to seeing him continue his great form.
