Castleford Tigers reveal forward George Lawler hospitalised following a seizure

Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers have released a brief statement that reveals that forward George Lawler suffered a seizure overnight and has since been taken to hospital.

The club provided the update via their social media channels and website with the following statement being released.

It read: “Castleford Tigers can confirm that George Lawler suffered a seizure through the night at home and was taken to hospital.

“Scans have shown George has a small bleed on his brain. He’s awake and feeling well. He will be spending the weekend in hospital for observation and will undergo further testing and specialist involvement.

“We ask that people respect George and his Family’s privacy at this time. Everybody at the club sends their best wishes for his recovery.”

Lawler had been named in Castleford Tigers’ squad to face Salford Red Devils tomorrow night but will obviously drop out now as he focuses on his recovery.

It’s an incredibly scary incident for Lawler and his family with the 28-year-old having  been rushed to hospital overnight, where he will remain over the course of the weekend.

Lawler made the switch to Castleford Tigers ahead of the 2022 season and immediately took on a big role after being granted the number ten shirt of retiring Cas legend Grand Millington.

In his time at the Jungle, Lawler has made 50 appearances taking his Super League tally to over 120 after having previously played for Hull KR, from whom he signed.

Since the news of the incident, there has been an outpouring of support from a number of Super League clubs as well as the RFL with plenty taking to social media to wish their best towards Lawler and his close family.

Castleford Tigers shared the news via their X account and that post has now seen huge support for Lawler with plans already being made for applause in the tenth minute in a show of support from those in attendance tomorrow night.

Everyone at Serious About Rugby League wishes George and his family the very best at this difficult time.
