Barrie McDermott says Shaun Wane is better for England than Wayne Bennett

Former Leeds Rhinos men Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Barrie McDermott have thrown their support behind Shaun Wane after his contract was extended as England coach this week.

Buchanan told Sky Sports that he believes Wane can get the side up like no one else:

“I think it’s great, I don’t think there’s many coaches who are better at getting a team up for a game and for what badge you’re playing for and in short term coaches he should be outstanding at doing that.

“I think it’s great.”

This notion was echoed by McDermott who said that Wane was a better fit than Wayne Bennett for the England job because of his ability to motivate:

“Brian we complain that there’s no forward thinking or planning. They’ve reviewed the World Cup. Admittedly, the result against Samoa was terrible. I watched the game against France virtually shoulder to shoulder with Shaun Wane and everyone seemed to have an understanding that you don’t often get at international level it was more like a club.

“They’ve done their report and they’re happy with it. Waney gets people to believe in what they’re fighting for in a way that I’m not sure coaching guru Wayne Bennett could ever do.

“Players under him were happy but I don’t know if they understood what they were fighting for.”
