“As good as I have seen” – Lam says Hardaker is one of the best in terms of this quality

Zak Hardaker’s move to Leigh Leopards is one of the biggest transfers of recent times and yesterday on debut he scored the winning try against former club Leeds Rhinos.

After the game his coach Adrian Lam was full of praise for him and said he is “as good” as he has seen in one area:

“He’s the ultimate competitor, he is as good I have seen in terms of competing. Even in training, he wants to win. He is the exact player we want at this club. Where he plays may change, he may be centre, he may be fullback.

“I love having him in the squad. He’s been voted in the leadership group here and he was at a crossroads in his career and he can make Leigh his home for years to come.”

In terms of Hardaker’s role in the side and what the spine will look like as consequence, that remains undecided:

“It’s a bit of a headache, Ben Reynolds did some good stuff today and he won the game. I can’t give you the answer to that.

“One spot will be Lachlan, the other spot is to be fought for and whether Zak plays at centre or fullback will be decided upon.”

He will form part of the leadership group alongside three others though:

“They’ve voted for John Asiata as captain, Jack Hughes, Lachan Lam, Zak Hardaker in the leadership group. It’s a nice mix and the right one so I think the boys have got it right.”
