Red Star Belgrade set to be in 2019 Challenge Cup

Serbian outfit Red Star Belgrade have submitted a bid to enter the 2019 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

The club revealed the formal bid has been submitted on their Facebook page this morning in what could be a big step for the Belgrade-based side and the sport in Serbia.

Founded in 2006, Red Star Director Colin Kleyweg recently outlined the club’s aims for the future including the possibility of joining League 1 in 2020.

Catalans Dragons became the first team outside England to win the Challenge Cup on Saturday, establishing their name among the elite in Super League, something Red Star Belgrade have long-term goals of replicating.
