Woolf frustrated at Saints performance

St Helens Head Coach Kristian Woolf was frustrated with his side’s performance following their 12-10 defeat against Huddersfield Giants.

It is the first time Saints have lost a league match at home since 2018. What’s more, after only losing three times last year, they have now lost twice in their first five matches.

He commented: “It was very frustrating. For whatever reason, I thought we were off in a lot of aspects tonight and as we have done before, created a lot of opportunities, but for different reasons, we couldn’t get it done.

“You think of the first set, we dropped the ball with the line open, we gave away a penalty for not having a bloke in the right position and we threw a pass to no runners. All of which suggested we weren’t where we wanted to be tonight.”

Woolf did reserve praise for Morgan Knowles, who was playing out of position in the centres.

He said: ” I thought he did a good job. Morgan does a good job wherever we put him, he’s a very good player.

“He’s so good in the middle, it probably takes away a little bit from what we do have in the middle, with him not being there.

“Although its certainly not why we lost the game and he did a great job in the centres.

Some young players seem to be really struggling, and losing confidence, Knowles is not a centre, but every club is going through similar problems, last season was a strange, so many clubs lacked form, those clubs seem to be much better this season, we need a more competitive Super League not one club walking away with the League all the time.
