Widnes have received a huge boost ahead of next season after re-signing highly-rated halfback Joe Lyons.
The 21-year-old Vikings Academy product made his club debut against Leeds Rhinos in the 2018 Super League and has since gone on to make 29 first-team appearances.
With Widnes going part-time next season, Lyons was one of several players rumoured with a move away from the club, however he has now put pen to paper on a new one-year deal.
“It’s great to have this sorted out and sign a new deal,” Lyons said.
“I’m looking forward to getting my head down, being back in with the lads and focusing on having a good year.
“This club is the only place that I’ve wanted to play my rugby, so as soon as the offer was on the table, I wanted to sign.
“I was happy with my year last season, and I put in some good performances, and it was a massive learning curve for me. I played a lot with Danny (Craven) last year and we built up a good relationship, so with him and Jack (Owens) re-signed, that’s a good start for us.
“The fans were great last year. They always got behind me and the boys wherever we played, and kept us going whenever things got hard. I’m looking forward to more of the same from them in 2020.
“t’s like a new start for us and it’s exciting for the players as well as the fans. I just can’t wait to get going again.”
