Warrington Wolves captain returns to the field after gruesome injury requiring ‘”15 to 20 stitches”

Warrington Wolves are currently playing Catalans Dragons at the Halliwell Jones with the Wire losing 18-0 in Gary Chambers’ first match in charge of the club following Daryl Powell’s sacking.

The atmosphere has been sucked out of the stadium with every score for the Dragons and on the half hour mark it doesn’t look like the Wolves will make a come back.

Warrington went behind early on through an Adam Keighran try which came immediately after Wire skipper Stefan Ratchford left the field following a gruesome injury,

Ratchford was making a tackle and a covering George Williams came across and landed an accidental elbow on his captain’s left temple.

That opened up what looked liked a major wound on Racthford’s head which drew plenty of blood and led to him having to leave the field.

The immediate restart saw a Mitchell Pearce kick allowed to bounce, falling into Adam Keighran’s hands allowing him to cross over and open the scoring 6-0.

Another try followed for Tom Davies, all whilst Ratchford was off the pitch having a Head Injury Assessment and being bandaged up.

The skipper returned with a huge bandage around his head after what sideline commentator Jon Wells explained was almost a failed HIA, purely because it had taken so long for the Warrington medical staff to get Ratchford cleaned and stitched up.

Wells said: “Stefan Ratchford has just returned to the field with a large bandage on his head which is covering up some 15 to 20 stiches the doctors have said.”

Just minutes after his return a Dragons player broke through and the support line of Mitchell Pearce was hit with the veteran playmaker crossing over from ten metres out to extend the lead to 18-0.
