Warrington Wolves boss explains why they lost to Leeds Rhinos

Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves suffered a crucial blow against Leeds Rhinos today as they lost 24-22 at Headingley as the two clubs battle for a spot in the play-offs with the likes of Hull FC, Hull KR, Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils.

They led three times in the game and twice in the second half as they led 12-6 and 16-12.

However, they were unable to press home the advantage and conceded two quick fire tries.

After the game, Gary Chambers said of the defeat:

“That’s just what they have to do every week. So the message I’m saying to you is the same message that the lads have got. That’s what we have to do every week.

“We go to work and that’s how you have to perform when you go to work. So that’s what it is, yeah.

“I thought they worked really, really hard. But we didn’t get the result. But we said that’s what you have to do each week when you go to work.

“I think we worked hard, he kept moving for each other, there was no one sort of knocking off, he kept pushing hard for each other, there was plenty of movement and two points of attack around the rook so I thought that was good.

“Defensively and you know with our kick options we finished where we wanted to finish so they were good we executed for the majority of the time what we wanted to execute so yeah that was pleasing.

“There was a couple of laps in concentration you could say a bit of luck maybe here and there but like I said it’s that’s just the norm that’s just the standard that this club expects.”

Asked how they managed to lose the game, he said:

“They went over the line more than us and kicked more goals than us didn’t they? I think you would feel their goal kicking, they’ve got an excellent goal kicker.

“A couple of breaks in, a couple of… Look, that game could go either way, couldn’t it? And that’s what happens, that’s just how it is.

“Maybe next week it’ll go our way. It’s just one of those things. You look for people turning up each week and that’s what we’ve got to do. So we’ve turned up this week and we’ve got to keep turning up and then some of them will change.”
