Ward worried about multiple games a week

Leeds Rhinos captain Stevie Ward has said he is worried about the prospect of playing multiple games a week.

Rugby League is currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, and one option put forward by Rhinos chairman Gary Hetherington is to play three games a week when the season resumes.

Ward told Sky Sports: “As a player, I’d have a concern over how many games we play in a week. It’s a tough game, its a collision sport.

“There is also so many players teams have. So how much that condensed season would affect players with injuries and with player welfare, that is some concern to think about.

“You also have to think about the quality of the games. If there are a lot of games in one week, there will be some tired bodies out there. It will not be games that you are used to seeing.”
