Wakefield Trinity head coach Willie Poching has addressed the future of Tom Johnstone.
The Wakefield winger has been attracting the interest of Catalans Dragons as well as overseas eyes, but Poching is keen to see the flyer stay on at Belle Vue.
However, Poching has conceded that financial constraints may see him leave.
“We’re looking at retention that’s our priority at the moment,” Poching told BBC West Yorkshire Sport.
“It’s a juggling act within the restrictions of what we are able to spend and keeping the club financially healthy and bringing the right people in.
“We will try our best to resist within our limits and what we think we can do the best for Tom.
“When you have fantastic players like Tom it’s no surprise he becomes of interest to other people and it’s a compliment to us as a club that people outside this organisation fancy the players we have within our group.
“He’s been a fantastic player and servant to our club and I would love to keep him.”
Poching was also eager to give Johnstone his blessing if he does leave.
“If he decides to move on, he will go with mine and the club’s blessing and that’s the nature of the sport.
