Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin has spoken out on the Betfred Super League after four games and giving his insight into his thoughts on Round Four of the Betfred Super League.
On Sky Sports’ Rugby League Verdict, Wilkin gave his “good, bad and ugly” from Super League Round Four.
He branded Warrington Wolves star George Williams as “the good” and Leigh Leopards‘ start to the season as “the bad.”
However, “the ugly” was St Helens star Mark Percival’s red card against Salford Red Devils.
Wilkin said: “The ugly is Mark Percival. This tackle, a huge contact on Jack Ormondroyd , doesn’t take anything away from what was an incredible Salford performance. But that red card, and this contact, was such a game-changing moment.
“You’ve got to credit Paul Rowley, his side’s got more characters than a Wes Anderson film, he does something special with his Salford teams and it was a fantastic performance for them against St Helens.”
Jon Wilkin praises Super League side
This came as Wilkin praised the Super League club Salford Red Devils for ending their wait to defeat St Helens, a wait that latest 44 years.
He said: “Well in Paul Rowley they’ve got an exceptional coach who gets the best out of his resources. If we talk about the start of the season, well they were decimated, all their best players left and all the talk was about whether they could actually achieve anything this year.
“And you know, what I saw in Paul’s team is a resilience and a toughness and a willingness to work for each other that is just timeless. It’s a timeless classic in the game of rugby league and all of his sides seem to have this trait.
“The red card was massive but Salford still had to get that game won and I was just impressed with how they found the way to win and like Paul said They’ve had to win in different ways this year Ryan Brierley came on the podcast and said, you know, 11th or anything better was a result for them this year and that’s just certainly not looking the case although we’re only a few rounds in.”
