Warrington Wolves started their season brilliantly with a thumping win over Leeds Rhinos which was a performance that looked very different to their struggles in 2022.
Now a former Wolf has had his say on the Wolves’ strong start in the shape of Adrian Morley who on The Last Tackle Podcast asking whether this is Warrington’s year perhaps a bit tongue in cheek:
“Speaking to a few of the Warrington boys and they’ve not really spoke about last year because there’s a lot of new personnel there and they’re looking at this as a fresh start really.
“They’re enjoying the environment there at Warrington, could this be Warrington’s year? We don’t know do we, but they’ve started great so we’ll see how that develops.”
Another former Warrington player, Paul Sculthorpe, added to this saying that Daryl Powell looked like “a broken man” in 2022 but the Wolves looked different in Round One.
He said: “He looked like a broken man at the end of the year and obviously that pressure was still on his head. Going into this game you want to start the season with a win but also a good performance.
“I thought it was a completely different outlook of Warrington. I thought they looked super fit, they looked athletic, there’s clearly been a change in culture in regards to efforts on the field.
“I thought they pushed for each other, I like the way they played them early plays pushing in numbers playing tough.
“I think Josh Drinkwater could prove a vital signing for them, he’s another set of hands in playing football but it allows George Williams to be George Williams.”
