Three Super League clubs who could sign star NRL halfback

Chad Townsend passes the ball while playing against Sydney Roosters in the NRL.

NRL halfback Chad Townsend is being shopped around to Super League clubs according to the Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield.

This comes as the Cowboys are set to move for Leeds Rhinos target Luke Brooks.

“I think it was a statement recruitment decision that they’re never going to overpay a footballer again and they won’t budge off $550,000 for Brooks and I applaud them for that,” Rothfield said on NRL 360.

“The mail I have is that Luke Brooks is very likely to finish up at the North Queensland Cowboys, he played Holden Cup in a premiership winning side with Todd Payten a while back, they’re very, very tight.

“There’s a lot of mail now that Chad Townsend is being shopped around to English Super League clubs and a couple of NRL clubs in Sydney as well.”

So with this news, which Super League clubs could be interested in the halfback?

Leeds Rhinos
With Leeds missing out on Brooks and with Aidan Sezer and Blake Austin out of contract, it would make sense for the Rhinos to consider a play for Townsend. He could provide them with balance and experience.

Wigan Warriors
Cade Cust is out of contract and most people believe that the halves are a key area for Wigan to address ahead of 2024. Thus, Townsend would be a very smart signing for the Warriors.

Catalans Dragons
With Catalans set to lose Mitchell Pearce to Sydney Roosters according to reports, the Dragons will need a halfback. So, making a play for Townsend and continuing their streak of NRL halves would be smart.
