After Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow have missed out on knighthoods again in the New Years Honours List, thousands have taken to signing petitions to get their CBEs changed.
One petition which was set up on the 18th December ahead of the announcement had 33,000 signatures before this week and has now shot up to over 40,000 and is aiming to surpass 55,000 by the end of the week.

Meanwhile, a secondary petition has been set up calling for this as well. Their mission statement reads:
“Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield, two extraordinary individuals, have shown remarkable courage and determination in their fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Rob Burrow’s personal journey with this devastating illness has touched many lives, arm in arm with his good friend, Kevin Sinfield. They have used their platforms to raise awareness about MND.
“Rob Burrow, a former professional rugby league player, was diagnosed with MND in 2019. Despite the challenges he faces daily due to his condition, he has remained an active advocate for others battling the disease. His friend and former teammate Kevin Sinfield has stood by him throughout this journey. In December 2020, Sinfield ran seven marathons in seven days raising over £2 million for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. More recently, Kevin Sinfield completed 7 Ultra Marathons in 7 days in 7 cities (7 in 7, in 7) finishing outside Buckingham Palace!
“Their efforts have not only brought much-needed attention to MND but also inspired countless individuals facing similar struggles. A knighthood would be a fitting recognition of their tireless work towards raising awareness about this disease.
“MND kills 1/3 of people a year and more than half within 2 years from diagnosis. Rob has already defied those odds and showed amazing determination.
“Not forgetting the families behind both men who have showed exceptional courage, strength and determination in support.
“Not to belittle awards already received. They were publicly acknowledged with gratitude and grace . However, we, the British Public would like the highest honour bestowed on these 2 friends in arms- before its too late!
“We call on Her Majesty’s Government to recognize these two heroes’ contributions by awarding them knighthoods. Please sign this petition to show your support for Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield’s deserving recognition.”
