Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC, Hull KR and many others are still dreaming of Old Trafford. In fact you could argue every club apart from Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity still have the dream of the Grand Final though Huddersfield Giants’ chances are quite slim.
The chances of the nine other teams reaching Old Trafford appear to be fluctuating week in and week out.
One of the best examples would be Warrington Wolves. They started the season with eight wins in a row and were seen as the favourites to get to Old Trafford.
Now though those hopes seem to be dangling by a thread.
Now Catalans Dragons star and former Man of Steel has said Warrington can only win the Grand Final if they have a fit George Williams who has missed the last few weeks with a hamstring injury.
“I think they can only win the Grand Final if George Williams is fit and healthy for a long period. Hopefully George gets back on the field as soon as possible,” Sam Tomkins.
“The way they attack, the full structure of the team changes without George Williams and that’s massive. They obviously aren’t as good without him.
“Out of all those players Daryl Powell has got missing at the moment, he only needs one to make a massive difference to that team: George Williams.
“I just think the closer we get to the end of the season, you’ve got those tight battle games, the tough games, the ones like we had with St Helens last night. You need that bit of brilliance.
“What we saw that from Jai Field tonight. George has got that too. George has got the spark. He can create something from nothing.”
Warrington will have to sit back and watch as their opponents last week chase a place in the other major final.
Wigan take on Hull KR at Headingley on Sunday live on Sky Sports battling it out for a spot at Wembley as they take on the Robins.
Wigan are looking to retain the trophy they won last May against Huddersfield.
