Super League star shockingly set to retire

It has already been confirmed that Super League is set to lose top notch halfbacks at Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC and more could follow from Wigan Warriors.

Wigan star Cade Cust’s future is very unclear meaning it is unsure whether or not we will see him in Super League in 2024 as he transitions to nine, a position Wigan have recruited in for 2024, and is out of contract.

Hull FC meanwhile have been forced to confirm the departure of Jake Clifford at the end of the 2023 season as he returns to North Queensland Cowboys.

Lastly, Leeds Rhinos halfback Aidan Sezer has reportedly agreed to sign for Wests Tigers in 2024.

One Super League club meanwhile is set to lose two halfbacks in the shape of Catalans Dragons with L’Independent reporting that the French side will lose both their six and seven in the shape of Tyrone May and Mitchell Pearce with the latter reportedly sett to hit the open market according to Fox League.

May joined the Dragons last season after guiding Penrith Panthers to consecutive Grand Finals winning the 2021 decider having lost in 2020.

He went on to play for Samoa in the Rugby League World Cup but was forced off in game one against England with dislocated hip.

However, he has returned from injury in fine form at Catalans wearing the number six jersey and helping the Dragons to the Super League summit.

That said, his form has clearly sparked interest and NRL club Canterbury Bulldogs were interested in May for 2024.

Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks reported that the Bulldogs had offered him a multi-year deal.

However, Rugby League Live have now reported this deal has collapsed and he is now available to other Super League clubs.

Initially it was believed that teammate Mitchell Pearce would be headed to the NRL.

Sydney Roosters was his expected destination after he turned down a move to Wests Tigers earlier this year.

However, in a shocking twist, the Daily Telegraph are reporting that the halfback is set to retire at the end of the 2023 season.
