Super League star set to make shock decision on his future

Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Hull FC and other clubs have unsettled halfbacks at the moment as they look ahead to the 2024 Super League season.

Hull FC have lost Jake Clifford already for next year. The former Newcastle Knights man is set to return to the NRL with former club North Queensland Cowboys in 2024.

Meanwhile, Wigan’s number six Cade Cust is transitioning to a hooker and is also out of contract leaving the Warriors in the market for a halfback.

Leeds’ situation is very unclear. The Rhinos have already let Blake Austin leave the club for the rest of this season joining Castleford Tigers whilst Aidan Sezer is headed to the NRL.

They will need two halfbacks with both their current stars leaving the club.

Another Super League club also is set to lose two halfbacks in the shape of Catalans Dragons with L’Independent reporting that the French side will lose both their six and seven in the shape of Tyrone May and Mitchell Pearce with the latter reportedly sett to hit the open market according to Fox League.

May joined the Dragons last season after guiding Penrith Panthers to consecutive Grand Finals winning the 2021 decider having lost in 2020.

He went on to play for Samoa in the Rugby League World Cup but was forced off in game one against England with dislocated hip.

However, he has returned from injury in fine form at Catalans wearing the number six jersey and helping the Dragons to the Super League summit.

That said, his form has clearly sparked interest and NRL club Canterbury Bulldogs were interested in May for 2024.

Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks reported that the Bulldogs had offered him a multi-year deal.

However, Rugby League Live have now reported this deal has collapsed and he is now available to other Super League clubs.

Initially it was believed that teammate Mitchell Pearce would be headed to the NRL.

Sydney Roosters was his expected destination after he turned down a move to Wests Tigers earlier this year.

However, in a shocking twist, the Daily Telegraph are reporting that the halfback is set to retire at the end of the 2023 season.
