Super League star completes shock transfer to Championship club

Ben Reynolds

Super League is full of great spines at Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, St Helens and the Challenge Cup winners Leigh Leopards.

The Leopards have a brilliant match winning fullback in Gareth O’Brien, a dynamic number nine in Edwin Ipape and perhaps the best seven in the league in the shape of Lachlan Lam.

They also had the criminally underrated Ben Reynolds but there is talk they could bring in Anthony Milford.

It has now been confirmed that Reynolds will join Featherstone Rovers in 2024 as long rumoured.

Head Coach James Ford commented; “I’m really looking forward to working with Ben again.  He’s an outstanding kicker of the ball and is excellent when executing plays with his strong running game, and is ultimately a real competitor.  He is a leader and a winner and will be instrumental in helping us win games in 2024.”

Reynolds commented; “I’m very happy to be joining my boyhood club, my family are very proud that I’ll be playing for the team they support.  I’m looking forward to working with James, Ian and the playing group to help us push on and achieve more great things for this team and this town.”

The 29 year old made 27 appearances for Leigh this year, scoring five tries and amassing 196 points for the Leopards, including some crucial points in their Challenge Cup Final victory.

Leigh boss Adrian Lam had previously said:

“Yeah, I think it’s been ongoing here with Ben and obviously clubs outside of Leigh have come in and negotiated with him. We’re continuing to talk to him about that and no doubt some sort of decision will be made either way in the next couple of weeks.

“It’s ongoing. It’s in the hands of Chris Chester and the management of Ben Reynolds. Ben’s done some great things for us this year, and him as a player at this club over the last two years have been phenomenal.

“He certainly has played a massive part in who we’ve become in the last two years and he’s an important part of our squad, especially with the finals coming up too. This needs to get sorted either way so that we can get some clarity into his head.”

Now Lam has provided a further update saying:

“Yeah, I think that’s in Ben’s hands now on what really happens with that and what he wants to discuss moving forward.

“It’s not too much different from our point of view. Like I said, we’re still trying to build and complete the squad and until we do that, we won’t release who’s staying and who’s going.”
