Super League prop makes shock move to League One

Castleford Tigers

Some established Super League players have starred in the Championship this season with the most notorious being former Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers and Hull FC playmaker Luke Gale starring for Keighley Cougars.

Once again though a Super League talent is heading to a lower league however this time they’re headed to League One, not the Championship.

The main in question is Castleford Tigers’ Albert Vete who will now head to Doncaster RLFC on a season-long loan.

He will join former Super League man Brett Ferres at Doncaster.

Castleford announced the news via their website.

“Castleford Tigers can confirm that Albert Vete has joined League One outfit Doncaster RLFC on a season-long loan.

“The prop has run out for the Tigers on six occasions this campaign and now will link up with Richard Horne’s squad with immediate effect.

“The Tigers have a 14-day call-back option on the prop, and we would like to wish Albie all the best during his stint at the Dons.”

Vete is a former Tongan international and had a season with Hull KR being heading to Castleford, he has also featured on loan for Featherstone in the Championship this season.

League One side Doncaster are currently sitting fourth in League One, firmly inside the playoffs.

Their head coach Richard Horne said: “Albert adds not only quality but experience at the top level to our ranks that we’ll look to utilise over the coming weeks.”

The Dons also confirmed that Vete will go straight into the squad for their next fixture against Workington Town at the Fibrus Community Stadium on Sunday, July 30.
