Super League Injury News: Seven clubs suffer huge blows

The Betfred Super League season had a fantastic start, with a record number of people attending Round One Super League matches however those fans were left with anxiety about potential Super League injury news.

The action kicked off with Hull FC and Hull KR in a derby match to begin the season. Hull KR emerged victorious after Niall Evalds, Kelepi Tanginoa, Mikey Lewis, and Matt Parcell scored tries. The game was marred by red cards for Ligi Sao and Franklin Pele, as well as yellow cards for Parcell and Herman Ese’ese. A crowd of 20,000 fans watched, the highest opening attendance since 2007.

St Helens and Leeds Rhinos also saw impressive wins, with six-figure crowds in attendance as two former champions started the season. The Rhinos defeated Salford Red Devils, while St Helens beat new boys London Broncos. Meanwhile, in front of a record opening crowd for the club, Leigh Leopards lost to Huddersfield Giants.

On Saturday, there was more controversy as Liam Watts was sent off for Castleford Tigers in a match against Wigan Warriors in front of 10,000 fans at the Jungle. This was a turning point that saw Wigan Warriors storm to victory. There was a similar situation in front of a strong crowd in France, as Catalans Dragons defeated Warrington Wolves.

This was the third close encounter of the weekend, following the games between Leigh and Huddersfield and Leeds and Salford, all of which were watched by around 8,000 fans. The weekend ended with St Helens at the top of the table and Wigan Warriors in second place.
