Super League forward suspended after being detained by police for questioning

Huddersfield Giants forward

Super League club Huddersfield Giants have confirmed that they have suspended one of their promising young forwards.

The Giants issued a statement on Friday night that revealed they would be suspending young forward Fenton Rogers pending an investigation.

The club said that Rogers had been involved in an incident on Thursday that led to him being detained by the police for questioning.

Therefore, pending their own investigation, the club have suspended the young man.

The official statement read: “The club were made aware on Friday morning by Fenton Rogers of an incident the previous day which led to him being detained for questioning by the police.

“The club has suspended him with immediate effect pending the outcome of their own investigation.

“No further comment will be made at this stage.”

Rogers made his Super League debut last year for the Giants after impressing on loan at the Bradford Bulls earlier that season.

The Bulls were keen to bring the young forward back to the club in 2024 but instead he went to the London Broncos.

However, he would not have been eligible to play for the Broncos this weekend as they take on his parent club the Huddersfield Giants in the final game of Rivals Round.

Huddersfield’s Rivals Round fixture has changed from last year when they concluded Rivals Round against Leeds Rhinos losing 18-17 to Rohan Smith’s side.

The year prior they met the Rhinos over Easter as well in a terrific 20-all draw. Meanwhile in 2019, the Giants were blown away by the Rhinos over the Easter period at Headingley.

Their last home game over the Easter period against the Rhinos came back in 2018 which was yet again another draw.

The Giants have been known to play the likes of Wakefield Trinity and others as part of Rivals Round.

The Giants have had an up and down start to the season but have won two games by scoring 50 points this season.

Against a struggling London Broncos side, you wouldn’t bet against them repeating the feat in Super League Round Six but neither side will be able to call upon Fenton Rogers as an investigation begins into the young man.
