Super League coach teases two major signings

Huddersfield Giants have reportedly beaten Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC to the major signing of halfback Adam Clune.

Clune is set to leave the NRL and Newcastle Knights to join the Giants as the replacement for Theo Fages in a bitter blow for Leeds and Hull FC.

Making matters worse, it seems the Giants are going to sign two players from the black and whites in the shape of Adam Swift and Andre Savelio.

The two have been linked with a move to the club and following the confirmation of their Hull FC exits the duo’s moves to Huddersfield seem a formality.

When asked if the club were ready to confirm the news, Ian Watson said: “Probably not at the moment. I didn’t know Hull had released that. We’ve just been training so I’ve not seen that mate to be fair.

“But hopefully, when the time’s right, the club will probably make a decision about announcing players for next year as we go forward to be fair.”

Hull FC confirmed the departures today with the following statement:

“Hull FC can confirm that Adam Swift and Andre Savelio will both depart the club at the end of the 2023 Betfred Super League season.

“Swift, 30, joined the club from Saints ahead of the 2020 campaign, going on to make 59 appearances so far across the last four seasons.

“The winger will leave at the end of the season due to family reasons, returning to live in St Helens following the birth of his second child.

“Meanwhile, 28-year-old Savelio will also depart at the end of the current campaign, having also featured 59 times since arriving at the club from Brisbane Broncos in 2019.

“Everyone at the club would like to thank both Adam and Andre for their efforts in Black & White and we look forward to seeing them represent Hull FC for the remainder of the season.”

The club recruited Herman Ese’ese on Monday and have now been linked with Shawn Blore according to Fox Sports down under, both players that will help their pack and potentially cover the loss of Savelio, but certainly not Swift.

You would expect the club to now target a winger.
