Super League club targeting high profile signings

According to reports Huddersfield Giants beat Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC to the signing of Adam Clune.

Hull FC wanted the Newcastle Knights halfback as a replacement for Jake Clifford as he heads to North Queensland Cowboys.

Meanwhile, Leeds Rhinos are set to lose Aidan Sezer to Wests Tigers with Blake Austin already at the Castleford Tigers.

Huddersfield though have seemingly targeted him as a replacement for Theo Fages.

But Ian Watson has promised that the club are looking everywhere for high profile targets in both the NRL and Super League:

“Oh, we’re having a look everywhere, mate, to be fair. We’re having a look in the NRL, and in the UK. So yeah, we’re having a look everywhere, mate, to be fair, to see what’s the right quality, but it’s got to be what’s the right fit for our team.

“So it’s not necessarily always chasing a name because there’s always names been thrown around at the moment. You see some of them that you’re linked with and some of them will be true some of them will not be true on the back end of it, it’s going to be what’s the right player to fit with our team.

“It’s not necessarily about signing the name it’s about signing the right player that will be will make our team better and improve us on and off the field.”

In terms of the profile of player, Watson said:

“I think the biggest one for us is getting somebody who can help control our team. If you look what we’ve got within the squad at the moment, we’ve got obviously people like Jake Connor, Tui Lolohea. We’ve got them kind of running players within our squad as well,

“When we’ve lost people like Theo and Oliver Russell this year, we’ve really, really struggled just because we’ve not had anybody who’s been able to kind of give us that control on the field.

“So what we think we need is we need somebody who’s going to be a threat to themselves as a player but who can bring that kind of team cohesion together and be able to control that going forward.”
