St Helens star set to make huge decision on his future

Lewis Dodd St Helens

St Helens star Lewis Dodd has a huge decision to make ahead of 2024.

Dodd agreed a new deal in 2021 to stay at the club until the end of the 2024 season with an option to extend until 2026.

But ahead of the new season, with his contract expiring this year it has led to an increase in NRL interest. The Wests Tigers made a move for Dodd after he impressed in the World Club Challenge sinking Penrith Panthers with a drop goal.

He was advised to turn down the offer by St Helens CEO Mike Rush but the halfback has since been subject to further NRL interest.

However, the Saints have put a bumper new deal on the table for the halfback according to League Scene. This has left the number seven with a choice between pursuing a move to the NRL, which Australian sources have claimed is his preference, and staying with the club who has developed him.

Once this decision is made, the Saints can turn their attention to 2024. The Saints concluded 2023 with a gruelling final training session in 2023 for the St Helens First Team, taking place at an incredibly windy and rainy Formby Beach.

The Saints were put through a whole host of physical challenges, pushing them to their limits but striving to come through it all as a team.

To finish, every First Team player and member of our coaching staff linked arm-in-arm and calmly as a group approached the edge of the unforgiving and freezing cold Irish Sea.

A quick team photo closed out proceedings, and Paul Wellens’ men will now go and enjoy the festive break.

The Saints’ first run out at the Totally Wicked Stadium in 2024 will be against the Swinton Lions in a Pre-Season friendly.

St Helens will welcome the Betfred Championship side on Saturday, 20th January 2024 (kick-off 2pm) as Paul Wellens’ men begin their build-up to the start of the 2024 Betfred Super League season.

Swinton have been the Saints’ dual-registration partner in 2023 and it has been a beneficial partnership for both parties, so the Club is looking forward to welcoming the Lions to kick off the new year.
